Our Story...

Our goal is to connect women with each other so they can share their brainpower, ideas, talent and financial resources to benefit the community, while making a significant and lasting impact by supporting programs that address the needs of the people of the South Shore. By bringing together and better enabling giving-minded women to increase the impact of their individual charitable contributions, we strive to make their donations towards the greater good more meaningful to themselves and the recipients.

And...we're off!

Despite several inches of new snow on the ground, and the resulting need for a few members to stay home and/or tend to other responsibilities, the kick-off meeting of the South Shore Giving Circle was a success!  About a dozen ladies showed up at Kristin Dewey's home for some meet & greet, some wine & nibbles, and some laughs.

The intent of tonight’s gathering was not forgotten, however, and Stephanie provided the group with an overview of Learn to Copea local support group for families dealing with a child's heroin addiction. The group was founded in 2004 by Joanne Peterson, from Raynham, who was struggling for help with her addict son. She quickly realized that teenage drug abuse (that usually starts wtih Oxycontin and leads to heroin) is not just a family crisis, but a community crisis. We know on the south shore this is a big problem. Learn to Cope started locally but is quickly spreading to other chapters around Massachusetts.

On a lighter note, we discussed the locations for the next few meetings, and agreed on a standard meeting schedule: third Thursday of every month, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Looking ahead to March - we have a very special night planned, thanks to Janet! Our March 17th gathering will be at Lyn Evans Potpourri in Hanover (Merchants Row) The store will be closed for us, and they will provide cocktails and nibbles while we browse (with absolutely no obligation to buy!) They have also very generously offered to donate 10% of all purchases back to our fund. And that night we will also draw names of all attendees, with one lucky person winning a $100 Lyn Evans Potpourri Gift Certificate!
